Dorothy D. Hays

DOROTHY HAYS, 90, of Bartlett, TN went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 20, 2015. A native of Trenton, TN, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Ida Dowland. A graduate of Union University, she taught elementary school until assuming her lifelong role of a loving, devoted Pastor’s wife. She was a long time member of Bartlett Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rev. F. Irvin Hays. She is survived by two sons Wayne Hays (Dena) of Hickory Withe, TN and David Hays (Debbie) of Bartlett, TN, five granddaughters Stefanie Daniel (Kevin) of Bartlett, TN, Lindsey Durand (Matt) of Arlington TN, Allison Hays of Nashville TN, Courtney Hays of Nashville TN, and Jordan Hays of Bartlett TN, and one great-granddaughter, Ava Daniel of Bartlett, TN. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Bryant of Birmingham, AL. Family and friends will gather this evening, Monday, March 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. A celebration of the life of Dorothy Hays will be held on Tuesday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the same location. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union University, 1050 Union University Drive, Jackson TN 38305, Attn: University Relations to either of the two scholarships; the F. Irvin Hays Union University Scholarship (Bartlett Baptist Church) or the Dr. Irvin and Mrs. Dorothy Hays Scholarship (Faith Baptist Church).
