Edith Rose Cook, 86, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, in the city where she was born and spent her entire life. Born in Memphis on August 18, 1939, to Walter and Lottie Baker, Edith’s warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Humes High School, Edith married the love of her life, Derry Cook, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Together, they raised three sons—Curtis, Derry Jr., and Andy—instilling in them the same selflessness and dedication that Edith exemplified throughout her life. She spent her early years as a beautician before committing herself to spending all her time raising her three young sons. Once the boys were grown, she resumed her career as a beautician caring ever so lovingly for the residents at Allen Morgan Nursing Home and Trezevant Manor.
Edith’s home was always a place of warmth, where friends and family gathered to share her delicious cooking and enjoy her infectious sense of fun. A talented artist, Edith found joy in drawing, painting, and sketching. She was equally gifted in the kitchen, where her meals were more than just food, they were acts of love. Her fun-loving and outgoing spirit brought comfort and cheer to all who knew her. Edith will be remembered as a selfless and nurturing woman—someone who put the needs of others before her own, who supported her husband and sons in every endeavor, and who faced life’s challenges with grace and optimism.
Edith is survived by her sons Curtis Cook, Derry Cook Jr. (Laura), and Andy Cook (Shannon); her sister, Pat Morris; her grandchildren, Derry Cook III, Avery Cook, Davis Cook, and Caroline Cook; her niece, Patricia and her grandnieces, Shea Fox, Cori Melcher, and Erin Barber.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Derry, her parents, Walter and Lottie Baker and her nephew, Gary Morris.
Edith’s family takes comfort knowing she left behind a legacy of love, compassion, and generosity. Her memory will live on in every shared story, funny moment, and cherished family recipe that bears her touch.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on January 5, 2026, from 9:00 am until funeral services begin at 10:00 am all in the Arlington Suite at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. A graveside service will immediately follow the funeral service.
