Pete died the morning of November 17 2017 in his home from complications of congestive heart failure.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Ann Massie and his three children: Steve Massie, Connie Mott and Diana Agee. He leaves 7 grand children: Rebecca Phillips, Thomas Massie, Lindsey Agee, Sean Massie, Zachary Agee, Emily Mott, Kendall Agee and a great grandchild Mary Glenn Phillips.
He is preceded in death by his father Edward Lindsey Massie Sr. And his mother Sarah Ruth Futrelle.
Pete was born and lived his early years in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from DuPont Manual High School in 1947 and then attended the University of Kentucky earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Administration in 1952 while serving in the USAF Officers reserve from 1948 until 1954. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant from 1956- 1957 84th Fighter Group stationed at Fairchild Air Force base and was Honorably Discharged.
His career started with General Electric Company as an auditor in Louisville, Kentucky. He began his career with Commerce Clearing House, Inc. in 1954 as a salesman. Pete was an accomplished salesman and advanced through the sales organization to the management ranks while in Jackson, MS, Memphis, TN, Huntington, WV, and Louisville, KY. He was promoted to General Sales Manager and moved his family to Lincolnshire, IL. Pete continued to advance and became President of CCH Publishing and eventually President of CCH, Inc. He retired in 1995 after 41 years of service.
Retirement did not last long with Pete and he was appointed Director of the Chicago Stock Exchange and served on the board of the Riverside Foundation.
He was a member of Deerfield Presbyterian Church in Deerfield, Illinois.
Pete was a family man and enjoyed a life long relationship with Betty’s extended family. His favorite moments in life were on Long Lake with family and friends, boating, fishing, swimming and skiing. He enjoyed reading.

There will be a memorial service at Memphis Funeral Home Saturday November 25 2017 and a life celebration on Long Lake Summer 2018.
