FLORENCE SHANKS CARTER, 85, beloved wife and mother, of Bartlett, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010, in Columbus, MS. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service and interment at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 28, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. She leaves her four children, Sherrill Smithey, Jeffry Carter, Bruce Carter, and Stephen Carter; six grandchildren, Samuel Smithey, Jesse Smithey, Joseph Carter, Wesley Carter, Lauren Carter, and Stuart Carter; and one great-grandchild, Cate Smithey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Malone Carter; her sisters Agnes Shanks Gatti and Doris Shanks Wessels; and her brother, Thomas Shanks.
