Gary Dell Whitten, age 67 of Rosemark, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on November 16, 2025, in Memphis Tennessee. Born on January 16, 1958, in Memphis Tennessee, Gary lived a life defined by hard work, deep devotion to his family and a passion for all things mechanical.
A proud graduate of Frayser Baptist High School, Class of 1976, Gary pursued a lifelong career in ironwork. He dedicated decades of service to Local 167, where his commitment and craftsmanship earned him the recognition of Apprentice of the Year in 1981. From his apprenticeship in June that same year to his rise as a respected journeyman, Gary built not only structures, but a legacy of integrity and skill admired by all who worked alongside him.
Gary was a man who loved working with his hands. Whether building, tinkering or restoring, he found joy in creation. His passion for cars, especially street rods and racing, was well known. He could often be found in the garage, sharing stories, turning wrenches or simply admiring the beauty of a well-built machine.
He is survived by the love of his life, Donna Whitten, his devoted wife of 46 years; his two children, Nicholas Whitten and wife, Heather, and Danielle Whitten; and his four beloved grandchildren, Haven (15), Lathan (14), Kinsley (10), and Hazel (9). Nothing brought Gary more pride than his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Gary was the son of the late Dell B Whitten and is survived by his mother, Jimmie Whitten, and his siblings, Terry Whitten and Teresa Brunson.
Gary will be remembered for his warm heart, his steady presence and the way he lived his life with purpose, love, and quiet strength that lifted those around him. His legacy lives on in his family, his work, and the countless friends he touched.
May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.
Proverbs 3: 5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
