She was born on February 10, 1957 and adopted shortly after by Dorothy Jackson and John Robert Young. After John Robert’s death, Dorothy married Marion Wafler who took Ginger in as his own.
Ginger graduated from Trezevant High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Memphis. She lived a wonderfully vibrant life, dancing ballet for some time with the Houston Ballet. Her claim to fame was dancing alongside Mikhail Baryshnikov in the ballet and being featured on the front page of the Houston Chronicle with him. Ginger was successful in an array of professional roles including teaching medical coding, coordinating the radiology residency program at Baptist Hospital, and working as the office manager for a pediatrician. She was elected president of the Midsouth Medical Group Management Association and served as a registered notary.
Ginger was a survivor and fighter who brought joy to everyone around her. Her smile could light up a room and her laugh was infectious. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family. Ginger is survived by her husband (Milton), her children (John Austin and Mason), who she loved “to the sky and back and back again,” her grandchildren (Paislee, Lynnlee, Dakota, and Drake), her siblings (Judy, Fred, Jerry Ann, Mary Lou, and Stan), and many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends for Ginger will be held Friday, November 4, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A celebration of life will follow at 10:00 AM. Committal service will be in Memorial Gardens.
