Glenna Lea Wold Freeland, 79, of Bartlett, Tn. went to her heavenly home on March 3, 2013. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church. She was born on August 27, 1933 in Springfield, Illinois. Glenna will be remembered as a faithful wife, mother, and follower of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Her family moved to Arizona, where she was a cheerleader at Coolidge High School and fell in love with a young soldier named Don Freeland, who was being shipped out to serve in the Korean war. They met on a blind date; it was very successful and resulted in 62 years of marriage. They made their home for many years in Memphis, then retired to the Blue Water Ranch in Weed, NM. They lived in Amarillo, TX before returning to Memphis recently. Glenna will forever hold a place of honor in the hearts of her husband and her 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Donna and Leo Jayjock, Suzanne and Scott Greer, and Holly and Mark Irving, all of the Memphis area. She was a beloved “Gee Gee” to her grandchildren Luke, Rachel, Logan, Matthew, and Annalea, and her great-grandchildren Bella, Livi, Eli, Coco, Owen, Harper, Phin, and Valentine. Glenna is lovingly remembered by many friends who were blessed by her hand-made cards and home-cooked meals. She loved to visit the sick and encourage the lonely, and she found joy in volunteering as a reading tutor. She liked to watch classic movies, cheer on her favorite college basketball teams, read a good book, and could still play a mean game of scrabble. Glenna had the gift of hospitality and made a lasting impression on young people with her humor, love, and chocolate chip cookies. She was known as a second mom to many. Glenna passed down a legacy of faith that will be remembered for generations. We will miss her!
The family will receive guests and friends at a memorial service, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, New Hope Christian Church, 3300 Kirby Whitten. A visitation will follow until 12:30. Memorials can be made to St. Jude, or Legacy Fund of New Hope Christian Church.
