

Mr. James H. Alexander, 85, went to sleep and woke up in the presence of his Lord and Savior, on May 26, 2012. Mr. Alexander was born in Gibson County, Tennessee, to James Nolen and Ida Alexander (both deceased) and was the last born of seven children- Clarence, Bill, Charlie, Ruby, Mary (all deceased) and Grace, who is a resident of Gibson, TN. He graduated from Gibson High School and served in the Navy in World War II (Pacific). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Latisha Rowlett Alexander; four children- James D. Alexander (Sue), Mrs. Cheryl Hobbs (Skip), Lynda Dilliard, Mrs. Sandra Wilson (Philip); eight grandchildren- Lauren Alexander, Jeffrey Partin (Jennifer), Zachary Alexander, Kelli Hobbs, Trey Hobbs, Shelby Dilliard, Lendy Gillespie (Ryan), Jordan Wilson; two great-grandchildren- Layla Alexander, and Jones Partin. He was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church, Bartlett TN., for 52 years where he served as a deacon, treasurer, choir member and on pastor search committees. He was ordained as a deacon by Lamar Heights Baptist Church, Memphis, TN. He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite Mason, Al Chymia Shriner, and Red Cross of Constantine, and member of the Bartlett Lodge #211. He retired from International Harvester and the City of Bartlett. He loved the Atlanta Braves, hunting, fishing, playing the guitar, keyboard, and harmonica and enjoyed country music. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. from 5-8pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30pm. The funeral will be at Ellendale Baptist Church on Wednesday at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Shriner Children’s Hospitals, Al Chymia Transportation Fund, or Ellendale Baptist Church (Bartlett, TN) Missions.
