 I just read in my college bulletin that the world has lost James D. Glisson.  So sad!

 I met James in a college French class, where he asked questions that I felt had such obvious answers.  I thought perhaps he was "slow".  Then, to my amazement I saw James on the Erskine College "Garnett Circle" list (top 25 students at our college).  I realized that James knew all the things I was struggling so hard to learn and he only needed a few tiny pieces of that puzzle to see the entire picture and know it in a way few of us could.   I became an elementary teacher and I so often told James's question story to encourage children to ask ANY question.  
I came to know him as a kind and understanding (truly) "gentle man."  So, when a friend I worked with in the summer visited me, I introduced them and James fell in love.  So romantic! 
We have lost track of each other over the years but I wanted to send hugs and love to the family.  You were so fortunate to have had James in your life.

Jim was one of the finest men I have ever known.  His unselfish devotion to his family and the children of St. Jude were an example to all of those who were blessed to know him.  My husband and I consider ourselves fortunate to have had that privilege.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  RIP, Jim.  Heaven is glowing with your beautiful smile. ❤

You were a classic example of what we called to do on this earth.  Disciple.

Our first contact with Jim was a telephone call on behalf of St. Jude. We discovered we were probably related through our Irish immigrant great-grandfathers. My maiden name is Glisson. After that we were cousins and visited several times in our home in middle Tennessee and at St. Jude. We have since moved to southeast Georgia, and he visited with us at our home in St. Marys before he became to ill to travel any more. We have just returned from a trip to Ireland and Jim was very much on our minds while we were there. I wish we could have had more time for more visits. He was a wonderful man who we'll never forget. Our hearts and sympathy go out to his loved ones.

I am so sorry to hear about Jim(Jimmy, to us in the old days). He graduated in my class from McCormick High School.  He stopped to see me on one of his trips to Florida for St. Jude's and it was nice to keep in touch.  Regards to Darlene, sister Pat and the rest of the family.

One of my very favorite teachers at Raleigh-Egypt. He was a wonderful and inspirational guy. Best wishes to his family and friends during this painful time.

Sorry to hear about James. May God be with you at this difficult time.

So sorry about Jim.  He went to high school with my husband and me.  He was very smart.  He spent his life giving to others.  Wish we didn't live so far away (Greenwood, SC) so we could attend the memorial service.  Love to his wife and brothers and sisters, Sara and Linwood Hollingsowrth

Jim was a fine gentleman and a dear friend. Always cheerful and witty he gave us an example of a life well lived. We had the honor of being with Jim when he passed away. I told him of the many prayers and good wishes sent to him on Facebook and he asked me to say how very much he appreciated them. Jim appreciated his friends and saw the goodness in everyone. He was devoted to his wife, Darlene, and together they were constantly helping and learning. They raised funds for the organizations they cared about and pursued their many interests. They created beautiful gardens, entertained delightfully, traveled to many countries and met people from around the world. Jim showed his wide ranging knowledge when we played Trivial Pursuit with him -for 29 years. He touched many lives and made the world a better place.
