James (Jason) Marlin Shackelford Jr., born December 31, 1972, passed away on January 12, 2025. Known for his vibrant spirit and endless creativity, Jason brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He is survived by his mother, Dottie Newsom; his sister, Emily Holliman; his father, James Shackelford Sr.; his stepmother, Vickie Shackelford; and his beloved dog, Tucker, as well as many dear friends who were like family to him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Justin Shackelford, and his grandparents, J.R. and Violet Taylor, and Carl and Heidi Shackelford.
A devoted son, Jason took great care of his mother, demonstrating his kind and compassionate nature. He also shared a close bond with his sister, with whom he created countless cherished memories. Jason took pride in the friendships he built and nurtured throughout his life. His generosity, warmth, and love for entertaining will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jason graduated from The Memphis College of Art and later earned a second degree from The University of Memphis. He found immense happiness in gardening and fishing. He was the life of the party, a natural entertainer who cherished the company of his friends and family. He also continued his artistic talent in painting with watercolors. His creative abilities shone through in everything he did, and his sense of humor and infectious energy made him unforgettable.
A memorial service for Jason will be held at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens,
3700 N. Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133, Friday, January 31, 2025 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Jason's honor.
Jason’s legacy will live on in the laughter, love, and light he brought to the world.
