Janie Smith Gay Crane

Janie Gay Crane, 89 of Memphis passed away August 22, 2011. Janie was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star; she was the Past Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Tennessee, Past Worthy Matron, O.K. Houck # 229 O.E.S. and member of Bartlett O.K. Houck #216. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John T. Gay, Jr. after 47 years of marriage and her second husband John H. Crane after 5 years of marriage. Janie is survived by her sons John Gay (Susan) of Tallahassee, FL; James Gay (Fran) of Faulkner, MS; stepson Ed Hettinger (Jan) of Bardwell, TX; stepdaughter Sharon Crane of Byhalia, MS; sisters Walne Speck of Memphis, TN, Mary Louise Ludlow of La Porte, IN; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William (Bill) Smith and her sister, Nina S. Murry. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 26 from 5-8 pm and services will be conducted on Saturday August 27 at 2 pm both at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Germantown Rd. Burial will follow in Forest Hill East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Janie’s honor to American Cancer Society through the Eastern Star, please make checks payable to Grand Chapter of Tennessee.
