Jessie Hoback passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law after 94 ½ years of sharing her love with family and friends. Her early roots were in Olive Branch, MS where she treasured her modest farm home filled with brothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and a heap of good cooking. Her time at home and years at Olive Branch School, Mineral Wells Methodist Church and Maywood prepared her for her role as a “traveling” Sears wife to her beloved husband Lester. She was gifted in meeting people, knowing people, and caring about people
.
She and Lester raised two children, Lester III (Lucky) and Brenda, embracing all old and new friends and family throughout 9 towns and over 20 houses.
Named “Most Beautiful” in high school, she shunned the title, saying “Pretty Is, As Pretty Does” but she loved sharing her beauty skills as she became a Cosmetologist and Mary Kay representative.
She joined the Christian (Disciples of Christ) church after marriage, sharing her personal style of hospitality with members of each congregation. In recent years, she renewed membership with her Methodist background at Covenant United Methodist Church.
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Willie Acree, her brothers, Leroy, Jimbo, Herbert, Dutch, and Charles Acree, her sister Lois Childers, her son Les Hoback, and grandson, Bob Hoback.
Living family members include daughter Brenda Bailey (Rick), grandchildren Becky Gillum, Amy Erickson (Craig), Gina Harris (Paul), John Hoback, great grandchildren Ashley Gillum, Samantha Brown, Brittany Hoback, Leah, Arnett, Jessica Nelson, Caroline, Katherine, Ella and Elizabeth Harris, and great great grandchildren Adelyn, Sawyer, and Luka Arnett.
Myriad of special nieces and nephews that she blessed and blessed her through the years will miss her dearly.
As she wrote her “life story” last year, she shared “My life has been long and has been so blessed. We don’t know what is ahead, but we know that God has made the plan for every day of our life and every step we take. I want to be remembered for my faith and my love for people.”
