Beth and I were so terribly sorry to hear of David's passing.  We have been neighbors of David's parents for a long time and just learned of the loss of their son today.  I know David will be missed by many.

My cherished brother in law David Ekmark you are already missed. One of the things I am going to miss the the most is your smile, your laughter and your great hugs. You always gave me real hugs. Not one of of those tap tap tap hugs so many people do these days. I love you David. Our family will never be the same without you.

My family is so grateful for the time that Knox was allowed to spend learning from David, and the time he continues to spend with you. David and I attended Our Lady of Sorrows together and although he left after the sixth grade to go to St. Ann's Bartlett we reunited at Christian Brothers High School.  I am so very grateful that we recently saw each other at our 40th year reunion.  He will missed greatly.

  To begin, I want to offer my thoughts and prayers for the Ekmark family. I hope that God's hand will hold you and comfort you through these times of sorrow. Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to meet David's family, but David had become one of my closest friends in a very short period of time. Please know, if there is anything I can do for you, just ask and i will do my best to accommodate.  I am glad to do what I can to help make these times a little easier.

 I met David about five years ago just after Susan and I joined Colonial. David was introduced to us through some friends we had met at Colonial. We would occasionally pick teams and play for something silly. For the first few months, for some reason, David and I never really connected with each other. Not that there was any issues between us, we just did not seem to connect. I mention this because somewhere along the way, David and I began to play some golf together and, within a very short period, David and I had become close friends. so close in fact, David and I would share things with each other that one would only share with a trusted friend. I take no credit for a casual relationship becoming a strong friendship. 
  David was always encouraging to people and seemed to never  disappear when someone needed help. I think the thing i liked most about David was the little boy with that sinister little boy grin that would appear out of nowhere when he got one over on you or he just hit a better shot than you. 
  This is tough for me, because over the past four years or so, David and I had become very close friends. David had this magical way of making people around feel relevant and liked and I am glad that he chose to include me in his circle of close friends.
  I will close with this. David called me the day he was getting discharged and told me about the surgery. Of course I jumped on him with both feet because he had not let me know about his surgery until after it was over. Being David, he laughed and said "oh, like you let me know before you are going to have surgery". He again gave me that sinister chuckle he has. He then said that he needed to go and then paused for a moment. David said that, the real reason he called was to let me know how much he appreciated his friends and that I had become like a brother to him. 
  Coming from David, I took that in high regard. The reason I mention the conversation is because it is so David. Here he is, in the hospital and just went through heart surgery. What does David do? He makes some calls to his friends letting them know how much he appreciates them and leaves them with a feeling appreciated. To me, that was David. 
  I will miss you my brother.

David "Big Dave" will surely be missed, family friend and funny guy, words cannot express our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers to the Ekmark's and family.
