

Katherine was born on July 28, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Tom Curley Gavin and Marguerite Costigan Gavin. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to attend the University of Louisville, where she earned her Master of Science degree.
Katherine dedicated her professional life to service through her work with the VA Administration. She will be remembered for her pursuit of higher education, her strong work ethic, and her lifelong commitment to helping others. She deeply cherished her Irish heritage and lived her life grounded in a strong Catholic faith, which guided her values and sustained her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Gavin Henze. She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Henze of Memphis; her niece, Beth Stewart and her husband, Don, of Germantown; her nephew, Jeremy James Stewart of Memphis; her niece, Anna Stewart Addison and her husband, Ben, of Oakland; and her great niece, Margaret Elaine Addison.
Katherine’s life was marked by quiet strength, dedication, faith, and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
The funeral service for Katherine O’Meara Gavin will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 155 Market Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38105. Burial will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 1663 US-51 Memphis, Tennessee 38106.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to DeNeuville Learning Center, 190 South Cooper Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38104.
