Lloyd David Qualls, age 74, went home to be with Jesus on January 16th, 2025. He was born on November 8th, 1950. He was known by his middle name David. He lived in Galloway, TN with his wife of 54 years, Fronie Qualls. His children are John Qualls (married to Maria Qualls) and Evie McMullen (married to Ryan McMullen). His grandchildren are Carleen Qualls, Elizabeth McMullen, Michael McMullen, Sofia Qualls, and Olivia Qualls. His remaining living siblings are James Qualls and Hazel Junkin.
David was the 8th child of Earnest and Evie Qualls born in Brownsville, TN and lived his life throughout TN, AR, and MS. His siblings, Velma Qualls, Russell Qualls, Earnest Qualls Jr., Ernestine “Elaine” Carlton, Betty Tubbs, and Darlene Mauldin, proceeded him in death.
David had many medical issues for most of his adult life. He overcame Epilepsy after 25 years of seizures. Over the years, he had several major health problems like strokes and heart attacks. He was diagnosed with Bladder cancer the first time in 2008. He had surgery to remove his bladder and left kidney in 2010. In late 2018, his bladder cancer returned. In March of 2019, he went to Vanderbilt University to have his remaining kidney removed. His first surgery was unsuccessful to remove the kidney. In the second surgery, the kidney was enlarged to the size of a football and the cancer had spread throughout his abdomen. The doctors struggled to keep him alive and had to stop the surgery to finish a few days later. The doctors said at this point that they did not think he would survive. The third surgery was as successful as possible to repair the damage. The doctors told us all that he would not leave the ICU. In April 2019, he defied the odds and made it out of Vanderbilt Hospital. The doctors said if he went home, he would pass in less than 2 months. After 3 months on hospice and steady improvement, he was taken off hospice. He went to dialysis 3 times a week ever since. He later went into remission for the bladder cancer. In March 2024, his bladder cancer had returned. In July 2024, the doctors determined that the treatments were not working. The doctors said that he had 3-6 months left.
No matter what anyone says, David constantly defied the odds and survived more than most could imagine. He truly loved the Lord. His was deceptively strong. He could lift things and do things that would purely amaze you. He was called the “Man of Tungsten Steel” by some. He was a quiet man, but when he was really comfortable, he would talk a lot. He would help anyone that needed help. He was always there for his family. He would teach you how to do something by showing you once and then making you do it over and over. He was patient beyond belief. Children and animals gravitated to him and would follow him around. He would play with his grandchildren and growl at them when they did wrong. “The Whole World Loved Papa.”
