It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marcella Alice Gutwald Cook 78, who left us on March 9, 2025. Born on March 30, 1946, she was a beacon of love, strength, and kindness in our lives.
Marcella Alice Gutwald Cook retired from Wright Medical Corporation in the accounting Department. Her knowledge of the German language proved a valuable asset in managing and collection of overseas accounts.
Her passions included the purchase of a Pontoon Boat enjoying many boat trips to Herb Parsons Lake with dad, David Best Cook. She greatly enjoyed tending to their flower and vegetable gardens, birds watching while sitting out on their patio relaxing and watching nature life with great fulfillment. She was an avid reader and quickly adapted from reading books to reading on her electronic tablet. Marcella’s legacy lives on in the values and memories she instilled in her children, who will continue to cherish and honor her memory.
On April 21, 2016 Marcella Alice Gutwald Cook received her lung cancer diagnosis where she was given approximately 3 to 6 months to live. Well, as you can see, she was a fighter and was walking and shopping one week before her passing. She was an inspiration to us all along with her husband David Best Cook and loving care towards her.
Our family wishes to thank the West Clinic as well as BMH East Memphis and Arlington Hospital Emergency Center. Without all the staff that cared for her she would not have lived the life of continued happiness that she wanted to live.
Private services will be held Monday, March 17th at Memphis Funeral Home Bartlett, TN.
Marcella Alice Cook is survived by her loving family by her husband of over 60 years David Best Cook, daughter Nancy Wiseman (Rick) Lowell, Oregon, son Ronnie Cook (Mary) Bartlett, TN, sister Christel Ostermeyer of Frankfurt, Germany and wonderful next door neighbors Steve and Rhonda Elrod. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but we find solace in the knowledge that she is at peace. Marcella Alice Gutwald Cook spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and her love will continue to guide us every day.
Rest in peace, dear Marcella you are forever loved and never forgotten.
