Marilyn Evelyn Hampton, 90, of Lakeland, Tennessee, passed away on October 26, 2024. She was born on June 3, 1934, in Iuka, Mississippi, to the late Lawrence and Birdie Robinson. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
After graduating from Iuka High School, Marilyn pursued her passion for nursing at the Methodist School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1958. She dedicated 41 years of her life to nursing, primarily at Methodist Hospital, where she made a significant impact on the lives of her patients.
Marilyn’s life was filled with joy as she pursued her hobbies, including bowling and ballroom dancing. Her greatest passion, however, was caring for others. She volunteered regularly with the Johnson Auxiliary at Regional One and the King’s Daughters & Sons Home. Whether tending to her grandchildren, neighbors, or church members, she exemplified a true caretaker with a servant's heart.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Jim Flaherty (Debbie), Marcia Hilliard (Mike), Pam Kirby (Glynn), and Michael Flaherty (Kim); her grandchildren: Drew Flaherty (Allison), Matt Flaherty (Madelynn), Vivien Kirby (Robert), Chance Kirby, Jack Flaherty, and Alex Flaherty; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Samaritan’s Purse in Marilyn’s honor.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, located at 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00 PM.
