Mary Virginia Tidwell passed away on June 7, 2022 at the age of 99. She was born to the late Charlie and Effie Hudson on September 11, 1922 in McLemoresville, TN. She married the late Kimbrough Paul Tidwell on January 7, 1950 and is survived by three children: Kimberly Rogers, Mary Ann Johnson and Brian Tidwell. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Virginia worked in an ammunitions plant during World War II. She moved to Memphis after the war to look for work and began attending Central Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she remained a member for 75 years. She worked at Goldsmith’s Department Store when they had a fabric and needle work department which was a perfect fit for her as she loved sewing, crocheting and needle work.
She had a life-long love of basketball. She made All Star playing basketball in High School and loved following University of Memphis Basketball and the Grizzlies.
She also loved her family, loved to cook meals for her family, and loved to send family away with left-overs. In her last several years, she had a ministry of sending birthday and get well cards to people she wanted to encourage.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13 at 2 pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens.
