

Mildred E. Nomland, born February 2, 1918 in Gully, MN, Mildred was the only child of Flora Eiden Quarness and Elmer Omar Quarness. She moved with her family to Hampden, ND where she attended Weaver Elementary School and graduated from Alsen High School. Mildred also graduated from Aakers Business College in Grand Forks ND. She married Arthur Herbert Nomland on April 21, 1941 in Grand Forks, ND. He served during WWII in the US Army Air Corps as a B-25 Mitchell bomber pilot while flying 52 missions and being decorated with the Purple Heart plus numerous other citations for valor. After the war, Arthur graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Higher Education. While living in Grand Forks, Mildred became active in the DAV Auxiliary serving as State Auxiliary Commander of ND in 1950. Mildred and Arthur moved to Crookston, MN in 1951 where she worked for Edward W. Brady Co., Minnkota Electric Co. and the Highland Oaks Public School system. She and her family were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. She resided in Crookston, MN from 1951 until she moved to Bellevue Woods Retirement Community in Memphis, TN in April 2004 where she was an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church. After suffering a stroke on January 20 2011, and passed away peacefully on May 30 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents and is survived by 4 children: Gregory, Lana, Loyde and Kim, 3 daughters-in-law: Carol, Sue and Janet, a son-in-law:Jim; 15 grandchildren: and 4 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4 from 12 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. Burial will be in Grand Forks, ND.
