

Oscar Lee Gilchrist, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Bartlett on September 8, 2015. He leaves his wife of 28 years, Linda Gilchrist, daughters Debbie Pearce (Jay) of Bartlett, and Terri Tibbs (Mike) of Crump, TN. Grandchildren Brandon Pearce (Nathalie), Joshua Pearce, Jenny Floyd, and Kevin Tibbs, as well as two great-grandchildren Keegan and Cody. Oscar was preceded in death by his grandson, Toby Tibbs. He is survived by his brother Charles Gilchrist and sisters Polly Williams and Agnes Cannon. Oscar lived his life serving others. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Leary. He was a Mason, Member of the Masonic Lodge Bartlett, Scottish Rite, and Potentate of Al Chymia Shrine Temple in 1995. Oscar also served as President of Southeastern Shrine Greeters and Hospitality Association in 1994. Oscar was the owner of Flair Cleaners and an Elder at Frayser Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved his Memphis Tigers and his dog, Doodles. Memorial services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11. The visitation will precede the service from 12:00 – 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
