With her family at her side, she passed away at home after a long illness. She leaves James Baker, her husband of 62 years and three children; James H. Baker, Patricia E. Baker, and Andrew M. Baker. She leaves two daughters-in-law, Beth Baker and Mazelle Attiya, who are married to Andrew M., and James H. respectfully.
She is the daughter of Ethel Mae and Charles Howard Stinnett. She had three siblings, Joyce, Albert and Charles. Joyce and Charles have preceded Peggy in death.
Peggy graduated in 1951 from Central High School located in Memphis, TN and she strongly encouraged her children to be well educated. She was a voracious reader and passed that onto her children.
Peggy loved looking after her children and her home. She was an avid gardener and always had a vegetable and flower garden. She was an avid wildlife watcher, especially birds. She was a lover of the arts and music, especially jazz and big band.
Memphis Funeral Home at 3700 N. Germantown Road has charge. The visitation will be Wednesday evening 10/26 from 6 to 8pm. The service will be Thursday morning 10/27 at 10am at the same location. Interment will be Monday, 10/31 at 1:15pm at the West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery on Forest Hill-Irene Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Raleigh United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice.
