Rachel Shoemaker Prislovsky, 87, of Memphis Tennessee passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024. She died peacefully in her sleep with daily tender loving care from her adoring family. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2012, our delightful Rachel lived each day with grace as her brilliant brain and beautiful body declined.
Rachel Prislovsky’s faith in God was profound and never declined. She was the most joyous, playful, helpful and gorgeous (inside and out) souls many of us have ever known. Children LOVED her. All her life, Rachel happily served and uplifted others everyday. She taught Sunday school, sang and played piano for the church, prepared hearty and reasonably healthy Southern meals for us all, danced often, cared for under-resourced patients as an RN, sewed and gardened for our family, and was the most loving and committed wife that Charles Prislovsky could have ever asked for or imagined.
She studied the Bible every day until she was no longer able to read. In her favorite Bible which her husband presented to “My Loving Wife Rachel S. Prislovsky on 12/25/1995” she had this passage highlighted, “But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield” (Psalms 5:11-12).
Rachel excelled academically and was top of her class in High School, College, and Nursing School. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Nursing.
Rachel married the love of her life at Bellevue Baptist Church with Dr. Robert G Lee officiating. Rachel and Charles Prislovsky were happily married for over 62 years. Charles preceded her in death on January 1st, 2021. Rachel and Charles were active members of Bellevue Baptist Church.
Rachel was born and raised in Bay Springs Mississippi on a large farm. She was the youngest of nine children by Lily Reed Shoemaker and Walter Shoemaker. She had close, loving relationships with all of her siblings.
Together, Rachel and Charles Prislovsky were known by friends and family as one of the most loving, committed, and joyous couples they knew as they raised their two children, Larry Andrew Prislovsky (Teresa) of Knoxville, TN, and Lois Ann Prislovsky of Santa Cruz, CA. In addition, Rachel leaves three grandchildren, Taylor Prislovsky (Elize) of Gwinn MI, Evan Prislovsky of Nashville TN, and Eli Prislovsky Warwick of Santa Cruz, CA and one great-granddaughter, Clara Prislovsky of Gwinn MI. Rachel also leaves her beloved nieces and nephews.
Our family thanks the many compassionate and patient professionals who helped Rachel pass in peace with dignity and the specific care she requested.
What a beautiful life and death, Rachel Prislovsky lived.
Rachel Prislovsky's Graveside Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 3700 North Germantown Parkway in Bartlett, TN.
Graveside flowers are welcome or in lieu of flowers, you may wish to think of Rachel Prislovsky with a smile and lovingly give your attention, service, and money to others often.
