

She was born on March 23, 1952, to Ralph and Virginia Lee, in Vincennes, Indiana. Rita, her sister Kathy and brother Ralph spent much of their childhood in Bicknell, Indiana, enjoying special times with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Later the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where Rita excelled in academic studies, graduating from Seneca High School where she belonged to the Beta Club, Pep Club, served on the student council, the school annual as Layout Editor, and participated in the Senior play. Upon her graduation she received a full scholarship for the Nursing School of the University of Kentucky in 1970. Earlier she became a member of the Buechel Assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls where she served as the Worthy Advisor in 1969. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Richard, who was active in the Buechel Chapter of the Order of DeMolay for Boys.
They dated for two years and were married on November 6, 1971.
Rita and Richard were baptized and confirmed as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 24, 1975. During her 50 plus years as a Latter-day Saint she served with dedication in many church callings serving the Young Women, Primary children, and Relief Society as a teacher, counselor and president, as well as a Seminary teacher.
She received several awards for her service as a Boy Scouts of America committee chairman and member. For a number of years she also served in the Memphis Temple (House of the Lord).
Rita and Richard were sealed together (married for all time and eternity) in the Washington DC Temple on July 2, 1976.
She served in leadership with Shelby Youth Sports participating with the Cheerleading program with her daughter Becky for several years.
She was a dedicated employee for almost 25 years as the customer service manager for the Memphis Communication Corporation.
Rita is survived by her husband Richard Sampey Floyd, Jr., her four children: Richard Sampey Floyd III(Rosemary Boswell), Rebecca Lee Moore, Robert Steven Floyd (John Lester Castillano) and Ronald Spencer Floyd (D’Andrea Floyd), her five grandchildren: Kevin Moore, Kaylee Floyd, McKenzie Floyd, Jordin Moore and Ruby Floyd, as well as her sister Kathy McCoy (Paul McCoy), her brother Ralph’s widow Emily Rose Lee and four nephews: Jonathan Paul McCoy, Benjamin Jae McCoy (Brandy McCoy), Justin Anderson McCoy (Whitney Mauldin), and Matthew Lee.
Rita was proceeded in death by her parents Ralph J. & Virgina Mae Lee and her brother Ralph P. Lee.
Funeral Service will be on Good Friday, April 3 at 2pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4195 Kirby Whitten Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38135.
Preceding the funeral service visitation at the Church will be from 1pm to 1:45pm.
Additional visitation will be at the Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133 on Thursday, April 2, 6pm to 8pm
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Rita Floyd’s honor.
