Robert Lee Shannon

Mr. Shannon was a 47 year member of Raleigh Baptist Church. His ancestors came from Ireland in the 1800’s, purchased the land in Shannon, Mississippi from the Chickasaw Indians and built the first home, church, school, store and cotton gin and named it Shannon. He was very proud of his heritage. He wrote a book on this and his life. He helped arrange the “Harvester Lane Credit Union” and served years after his retirement. Mr. Shannon was an active Community Leader and retired from Navistar.

Mr. Shannon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Rachel West Shannon, his brothers Carl and Sam Shannon, both of Shannon, MS.

He is survived by his daughter Melanie Lynne McCarley, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy Memphis, TN on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 9:00 am with services following at 10:00 am.
