

Roger David Barnhill, 74 of Memphis passed away on August 2, 2016. He leaves his wife Beverly Ann Barnhill; daughters, Kandi M. Barnhill-Cox and husband Chris of Arkansas, and Heather Barnhill of Michigan; sons, Danny M Barnhill and wife Janet of Tennessee and David Barnhill of Michigan; fourteen grandchildren, Brittany Cox-Clark and husband Chris, Madison Cox, Mallory Cox, Aiden Cox, Anne Marie Cox, Brandon Cox, Cory Cox, Victoria Barnhill, Emma Barnhill, Jordan Vermiglio, Maya Sarotte, Kristyana Barnhill, Katelyn Barnhill, and Alayna Barnhill; two great-grandchildren, Olan Clark and Dakota Clark. Roger was born in Detroit Michigan. He graduated high school from Lutheran High School West in Detroit, MI in 1960. After High School, Roger went on to get his Business degree at University of Michigan where he played football for the Michigan Wolverines, was drafted by the Detroit Lions where during pre-season he got injured and ended his football career. From there, Roger enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a MP. During his time serving as a MP, Roger had the privilege to guard the Freedom March from Birmingham to Selma, AL. After Roger discharged from the United States Army, he went into the Food Sales Industry where he was featured in several food magazines, earned accomplishments for sales and service, and served as the National Sales Manager for Foxtail Foods. After many years in the Food Sales Industry, Roger made a move into the Document Destruction and Disposal Industry where he earned honors and awards in National and World-Wide sales. He was featured in many articles and papers for these accomplishments. Roger had a love of sports. His favorite teams that he followed without compromise consisted of The Chicago Cubs, The Chicago Bears, Memphis Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and The Memphis Grizzlies. He also coached little league baseball for several years. Roger could always be seen sporting one of his favorite team’s apparel. His favorite hobby was his coin collection that he started when he was very young. Roger had a great love for his dogs, fish and birds. He loved working in his yard where he prided himself in receiving “Yard of The Month”. Roger had a playful personality and loved showing his family many memorable adventures, rather it was a walk to the ice-cream store, a trip across the country riding in the van, or a fancy dinner to celebrate any occasion. Roger’s daughter Kandi wrote a tribute to her dad recently on his birthday titled “Happy Birthday Daddy! Honoring The Man Who Made Me His”. You can read it at www.blog.abbaadoption.com. Roger’s greatest love was his wife Beverly. He spent his life loving her and lavishing her with flowers, gifts, surprises, cards, and many romantic dinners. Roger and Beverly prided their marriage on never going to bed angry and always being respectful of each other’s opinions and differences. All in all, Roger had a strong love for family and his most precious valuables were his grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Friday morning, August 5 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 Germantown Rd.
