

Roy Bennett Cheatham, 87, of Bartlett, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born in Bells, TN on July 16, 1928 and is preceded in death by his dear wife, Billie and his parents Serena and Ewell Cheatham. Roy is survived by his daughter, Wanda; son Glenn (Lydia); granddaughter, Stephanie (Nathan) Gilbert, two brothers, Bill (Lou) Cheatham of Stanton, TN and James Cheatham of Tampa, FL and four sisters, Zana Fuller of Jackson, TN, Nancy Futrell of Jackson, TN, Carolyn (Jerry) Peal of Alamo, TN and Marolyn (Burl) Kail of Alamo, TN. Roy was a charter member of Ellendale Baptist Church. He served as Captain in the Tennessee Highway Patrol, retiring after 31 years. He also served as Chief of Police for the city of Bartlett from 1983 to 1990. Roy was a 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of Al Chymia Shrine and Scottish Rite. He served in the Air National Guard for 21 years. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, January 20 from 5-8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Funeral services will be at Ellendale Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 21 with interment to follow in Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to Ellendale Baptist Church.
