

Ronald “Shawn” Phillips, age 51, died unexpectedly in a four-wheeler accident on September 3, 2018. Shawn is survived by his wife Mary Cay Canfield, their daughter Julia Canfield-Phillips, parents Charles Wayne Phillips and Sylvia June Goodman Phillips, a sister Delina Phillips Miller (Thomas), nephew Charles Miller and niece Lauren Miller. He is preceded in death by his sister Melanie Renee Phillips.
He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1990 and worked as a planner for the Army Corps of Engineers. Shawn was a real outdoorsman, who loved to interact with people from all walks of life. He never met a stranger and lovingly earned the nickname “the mayor of the cove” for the way he brought his neighbors together. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising chickens, canning, cooking and most of all deer hunting. He also worked on numerous church projects some of which included Reelfoot Mission Trips, Vacation Bible School, Prison Ministries, and volunteer work with Youth Villages.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 8th at 10am with a memorial service beginning at 11am at Ellendale United Methodist Church in Bartlett, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the home where his late sister resided.
