Sonja Hanks Stivers, 69, died at her home on the Tennessee River on Thursday, August 29. Originally from Pontotoc, MS, Sonja graduated Frayser High School in 1962, a year after marrying John E. Stivers. They remained married until his death in 2001. Sonja worked in the travel industry for 25 years and was a member of the Scenic Hills Women’s Association and Garden Club. She leaves her devoted companion, Jesse “Buddy” Thomas of Parsons, TN, her daughter, Leigh Ann Harris (John) of Hernando, MS; her son, John Stivers (Missy) of Memphis; grandchildren Alec Harris of Orlando, FL, Ian Harris of Hernando, and Lily Stivers of Memphis; and her brother, Mickey Hanks of San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services (casual attire) will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Road, with burial to follow in Memorial Gardens.
