

Devoted to his family, a devout Catholic, a patriot, and an unfailing gentleman for every time and place, Stanley James Miekicki, Jr. died on August 24, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee after battling pancreatic cancer for seven years. He was born on February 6, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to Stanley J. and Lucille Miekicki. His family moved to Memphis when Stanley was five years old. He attended St. Paul Catholic Grade School and Catholic High School. After high school, he received a bachelor's in biology from Xavier University in Ohio and a master's in biology/limnology from the University of North Dakota. Following graduation, Stanley joined the United States Army and continued his education at the Armed Forces Staff College, the Command General Staff College, and the Combined Arms Service Staff School. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army after twenty-two and a half years of service. Following retirement, Mr. Miekicki taught computer classes at St. Benedict at Auburndale for five years. After his time at St. Benedict, he was a computer engineer for New Horizon for thirteen years. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lucille Miekicki. He leaves the love of his life, his beloved wife of nearly forty years, Emelia Rose Giannini Miekicki, who stood by his side throughout his long battle with cancer. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Fischl of Chicago, IL and Claudia Baker of Memphis, TN. Mr. Miekicki was an integral part of the local Knights of Columbus, a devout communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he was a long-time member and a part of the Rosary Makers group, and was also involved with the altar society. Mr. Miekicki was known for his fidelity to his wife, his unwavering dedication to his profession, his Catholic faith, and his local church. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 29 from five o'clock until seven o'clock at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimneyrock Boulevard, Cordova, Tennessee 38016; there will be a rosary at six-thirty. The funeral Mass will be held at the same location the following morning at ten o'clock with an entombment to follow at Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN 38133 at one-thirty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Poor Clare Sisters, 1310 Dellwood Avenue, Memphis, TN 38127, the St. Francis of Assisi Knights of Columbus Chapter 9317, or the charity of donor's choice.
