Susan Jane Singarella

Susan Jane Singarella, 65, died on December 19, 2014 with her family by her side in Bartlett, TN. Susan was born Susan Jane Hartzler, December 21, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa to Clarence Vernon Hartzler and Virginia (Peterseim) Hartzler. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tom Singarella, and her loving children, Dylan Thein and wife Audrey of Austin, TX, Andrew Thein of Memphis, Sarah Singarella Cornett and husband Kyle of Fort Worth, TX, and Kate Singarella Greer and husband Daniel of Memphis, along with two sweet grandchildren, Carter Cornett, and Aurora Thein, both of Texas, and her Sister, Julie Zahs and husband Mike of Riverside, Iowa. Her deceased grandparents are Barbara and Rollin Peterseim, and Emma and Herbert Sr. Hartzler.

Susan was raised in a rural Iowa community. She graduated from the University of Iowa 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts, and in 1973 received her Masters Degree in Secondary English Education. She taught at several high schools, ending her career teaching AP English at Arlington High School in Tennessee. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, friend, colleague, and mentor to many students over the years. She devoted much of her time and energy to her family members, and provided a role model for her children and students. She will remain an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held on December 23rd, 2014 at 10am at the Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN. Memorial or donations may be sent to Youth Villages, St. Patrick’s Community Outreach Center, or Church Health Center.
