cancer on Wednesday July 14, 2021. She was born in a small town in Nebraska, but because of
her father’s military career, she was able to experience life in many places throughout the world
and spent many of her formative years in Germany and England. Vicky matriculated from both
the University of Texas in Austin and Old Dominion University in Virginia, where she earned a
degree in English. At ODU, she also met the love of her life, Jim Phillips, and despite his initially
dubious pick-up line, she decided to give him a chance anyway. Jim ultimately won Vicky over
after he showed up at her door with a Christmas tree and eventually proposed marriage to her
in a mustard stained shirt while eating a hot dog and watching football. She loved to t ell these
two stories, as well as a lifetime of other amusing tales, and she loved to laugh. Jim and Vicky
would have celebrated 47 years of a loving, storied marriage on July 19, 2021.
In addition to Jim, Vicky is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jenny Phillips Stinchfield and Thom
Stinchfield, of Germantown, TN; her two adored grandchildren, Maddie and Oliver Stinchfield, of
Germantown, TN; her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Veronica Martin, of Austin, TX, and a
host of beloved extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She also l eaves
her beloved fur child, Molly Phillips and her fur grandchildren, Max and Ziggy Stinchfield, who
will all miss her for her soft lap, her even softer heart and her unfailing devotion to bestowing a
perpetual buffet of treats at their whim. Vicky is preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Kay
Martin, and one brother, John Phillip Martin, all formerly of Austin, TX. She is also preceded in
death by her first husband, Lt. JG Ted Titcomb, a Navy pilot, who was tragically killed in a plane
crash in June of 1972. The family would like to thank all of the kind nurses and staff from Baptist
Trinity Hospice, the staff of both Baptist Women’s Hospital and Baptist East and especially Dr.
Joseph Santoso, whose combination of skill and warm bedside manner Vicky absolutely
adored.
Vicky preferred that her family hold a celebration in her honor at a date to be
determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vicky’s memory can be made t o ASPCA, St. Jude or
any child or animal focused cause close to your heart.
