Scott went to high school in Knoxville Illinois. He started his first company when he was in high school, F&M Sound. When the family moved to Memphis, in 1984, he was able to expand his business and started doing concert sound for big named artists, who performed in Memphis.
Shortly after he closed F&M sound, he started his own Audio Video company, called Sound Concepts. That company closed in 1994 and Phoenix Communications was born. Phoenix has been in business for over 30 years. Scott was very well respected in the industry. He sat on the board of industry associations. He worked with new companies to help engineer their products for consumers. He was also a consultant for many companies, one of which was the Wiz in New York.
Scott was an engineer by trade, and he was always looking for ways to engineer solutions. He devised a lift that would enable a projector to be housed in the ceiling of a room and was able to be lowered so the homeowners could watch their movies. This was unheard of technology in the 80’s, for residential applications.
He had his work published in Audio Video Interiors Magazine, which was a niche magazine, dedicated to the integration of audio video technology into home interiors, particularly home theaters. He also had several articles published the local Memphis magazine, At Home.
Scott had many hobbies. He used to build and race RC cars. He loved to garden and cook. He was a photographer as wella and sold many of his photos.
Scott had a small inner circle of friends. Ones he could trust, and they could trust him. One of his best friends, Doug Swatts, would accompany him on work trips, their families would vacation together and Doug was truly his brother
Scott is survived by his wife, Danis and his two daughters Ashlinn and Alex. His grandson Kingston. His father William and his sister Amy. Scott was predeceased by his mom Judy.
A memorial service will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Garden on Tuesday September 16, at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
