

William H. “Bill” Beaty, Sr. of Red Banks, MS, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was a Tech High School graduate, class of ’49, graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in 1957. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War and was a lifelong member of Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Beaty was also a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, past president of the Memphis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Regional Director for the National Council Architectural Registration Board and was chairman of the Tennessee State Board of Licensing Examiners. Numerous buildings in the mid-south region were designed by, consulted on or bear the handprint of Bill Beaty. In addition, many students in the Architectural Engineering program at the University of Memphis were rewarded by his time and talent as an instructor. Bill built and flew giant scale model radio control airplanes and was a gifted wood worker and talented vocalist providing Gospel and musical entertainment since his teenage years. Mr. Beaty, the husband of Diane L. Beaty for 62 years, also leaves a son and daughter in law, William H. Beaty, Jr and Melissa; a daughter, Caryl D. Beaty; and a sister, Byrd Harris. The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, May 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. A celebration of Bill’s life will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 24 at Temple Baptist Church, 8432 Germantown Rd., Olive Branch, MS 38654. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens.
