

William (Billy) Harding McCullar, 92, a resident of Shearer Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona, MS, formerly of Memphis, went home to be with his Lord on December 12, 2013. He was born April 11, 1921 in Water Valley, MS to William Edgar and Cora Fair McCullar. During World War II he was a PFC in the artillery of the US Army from 1942-1946, and served in the European Theatre. He married Margaret Wolfe McCullar April 30, 1950, who died August 26, 1991. He was predeceased by his parents, spouse, siblings Jamie, Carl, J.D., and Hubert McCullar, Nina Mae Barton and Annie Cooper Mitchell, his step-son-in-law James Wayne Brown, grandchild Elizabeth Brown Nerren and great grandchildren Matthew Brown and T.J. Nerren. He is survived by his step-daughter Sue Wolfe Brown, grandchildren Jim Brown (Loretta), and Patti Brown Harrell (Brent), seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Billy spent his early years in Mississippi, moving to Memphis in 1952. He was an Ole Miss Rebel fan who cheered for the Memphis Tigers when they were not playing Ole Miss. He spent his early years listening to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio with Harry Carey and remained a fan until his death. He was a faithful member of Berclair Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. In 2006 he moved to Shearer Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona, MS to be close to his step-daughter. While there, he was very active participating in all of their activities. In 2008 he was chosen King of the Halloween Carnival and rode in the parade with his reigning queen. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 14 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Visitation will begin at noon.
