

William Emory "Bill" Wingett, a longtime resident of Bartlett, TN, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, at Baptist Hospice House in Collierville, TN. He was born on May 14, 1940, in Syracuse, OH, and graduated from Southern High School in Racine, OH.
After graduating, Bill proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he enjoyed a fulfilling career with Bell South in both Union City and Nashville, TN, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service. A devoted member of Oliver Creek Church of Christ, Bill lived a life rooted in faith, family and community.
On September 29, 1968, Bill married Jeanene Wingett, with whom he shared a loving partnership spanning decades. Together they raised two sons: Jim Wingett (Barbara) of Lakeland, TN, and William Brian Wingett (Sybil) of Bartlett, TN. Bill was also a proud grandfather to Tyler Wingett (Lauren), Matt Wingett (Cami), Chazity Purdue (Adam), Caleb Wingett (Racheal), Noah Wingett, Elizabeth Taylor, and Kimberly Reed. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Abby Wingett, James Wingett, Becki Wingett, Landon Purdue, Liam Purdue, Tucker Purdue, Anna Woodard, Evan Woodard, Arica Latham, and Serenity Latham. Bill was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had an unbelievable work ethic and showed us all what it means to put your family above self.
Bill was proceeded in death by his father Lowell Wingett, his mother Elenor Wingett, his younger brother Robert (Bob) Wingett and his baby sister Ruth Wingett Strode all of Ohio.
Bill was a prolific reader and particularly enjoyed spy novels and historical biographies. He also had a passion for sports and enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Tennessee Titans and loved going to games. After retirement, he found joy in working in his yard and tinkering in his garage. Known for his storytelling, Bill delighted those around him with tales from his youth along the Ohio River, his time in the Army, and his travels for work.
Funeral services and interment will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Agape Child & Family Services in Memphis, TN or the Alzheimer's Association.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May Bill's memory bring comfort to all who knew him until we meet again on the other side.
