

Gilbert R. Lynn, JR “Papa” of Bartlett was called home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the age of 92 at the William Courtney Veterans Home in Temple. He was born in Bartlett TX on August 31, 1918 to Gilbert and Myrtle Lynn. He married Ethel Kelley on October 18, 1941. They lived in Bartlett all their lives. G.R. served in the United States Army from 1943-1945 where his decorations included the EAME ribbon with a bronze star, and the Purple Heart. He served in the Masonic Lodge for 50 years where he received the Golden Trowel award as a member of the Zerne Lodge in Holland. He held the office of Worshipful Master in the Bartlett lodge and was awarded the honor of a 32nd Degree Mason. G.R. was also a member of the Taylor Eastern Star and the Bartlett, American Legion. He was employed at the V.A. Hospital for over 30 years. G.R. was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlett.
G.R. is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, his sister, Vivian Thomas, and great-grandson, Tyler Karl.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Lange and husband Norman of Bartlett; grandson, John Bell and wife, Lisa of Bartlett; granddaughter, Debora Karl and husband, Rex of Temple and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Goodnight Funeral Home, 209 E. Prof. Powell, Bartlett, TX.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Goodnight Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to First Baptist Church, Bartlett, TX.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goodnight Funeral Home.
