

PEORIA - Andrew Joel Heisel, 56, of Glasford died at 2:29 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Methodist from a sudden onset of a blood infection following a heart attack. Andy was born October 20th, 1957, in Peoria, the son of Fred George and Vernetta Lorene (Seaton) Heisel. He was preceded in death by his parents. Andy married Candy (McKavitt) Hunter in June 2004 and was married to Donna (Shane) Klusman from 1978 to 2003.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of ten years, Candy ; sons, Adam (Courtney) Heisel of South Lyon, MI, and Matthew (Tatiana) Heisel of Ft Leavenworth, KS, Dallas Hunter of Glasford; one daughter, Kasey (Sam Stoops) Krus of Morton ; one brother, Timothy (Camille) Heisel of Glasford; one sister, Kathleen (Ralph Jay) Close of Chillicothe; two step-sisters, Emily Wittekiend and Nancy Coleman of Bartonville; his four grandchildren, Jacqueline & Luke (Adam), Henry (Matt), and Lyric will all miss his hugs; and two nephews, Drew (Amanda) Heisel of Hanna City and Trent Heisel of Edelstein.
He spent over 36 years as a Peoria Journal Star motor route delivery driver primarily serving the Mapleton area. During the past several years he had been working for the U.S. Postal Service as a relief motor carrier in the Trivoli, Hanna City and Mapleton areas. Previously he worked 17 years at Culligan as a water softener installer/serviceman. Andy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Andy was the perfect definition of a Handyman. He drew pride from his ability to tackle and accomplish almost any vehicle or home project that involved a repair or upgrade. He developed a passion for automobiles at an early age and passed that aptitude onto his sons. He spent countless hours performing the frequent repairs needed on the vehicles used during his 40-year career delivering newspapers and mail. He enjoyed finding vehicles that were broken or in need of maintenance and enjoyed bringing them back to life. He helped supply numerous family, friends, and neighbors with vehicles throughout his life. He was a caring and loving husband, father, and friend who will be missed.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 8, 2014 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Visitation will be Monday Evening, April 7, 2014 from 5-8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Celebration of life will follow.
Memorials may be made to a fund for the grandchildren’s education.
