

David Earl Sule, 76, of Mapleton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025.
He was born on March 8, 1949, in Idaho to Earl "Gabby" and Elma (Dobbs) Sule. He grew up and graduated from Auburn High School, Auburn, IL.
David was married to his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Sule (Nardi), for 54 wonderful years. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family adventures. He was a proud father to Marissa (Peter) Begun of Gilberts, IL; Erica (Joseph) Ficarrotto of Merritt Island, FL; and Amanda (Nicholas) Thompson of Clarksville, TN and a beloved “Papa” to his seven grandchildren- Wren Powaser, Carolyn and Andrew Begun, Reagan and Dylan Ficarrotto, & Lillian and Logan Thompson, who brought him endless joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Sule.
For 53 years, David worked as a natural gas technician with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, later Duke Energy. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, he built lasting friendships throughout his long career.
Outside of work, David was an avid outdoorsman who found joy and happiness in fishing, gardening, and hunting. He and Carol loved to travel and explore new places together. David was a devoted member of the men’s club and assisted with many activities at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Peoria and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Bartonville.
He rarely missed a sporting event or theater production for his children or grandchildren, cheering proudly from the sidelines. With his warm smile and firm handshake, David never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his generosity, good humor, and steadfast devotion to his family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bartonville with a viewing before mass at 9:30 a.m.
Burial at Auburn Cemetery will take place at a later date.

David’s life was one well-lived, and his legacy of love and kindness will continue through all who knew him.
