Elizabeth "Betty" M. Southey, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her home in Peoria.
She was born September 18, 1924 in Peoria, IL to William and Minnie (Zorn) Bryan. She married John M. Southey in 1946 in Peoria. He preceded her in death in March of 1986 in Peoria. Her parents, two brothers, one sister and one son, James Southey , who died in Vietnam, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, John (Kathy) Southey of Bartonville and Jerry (Nancy) Southey of Peoria, four grandchildren, Kellie (Brian) Barth of Bartonville, Nicole (Eric) Quiram of Edwards, James "Clay" (Michelle) Southey of Peoria and Elizabeth "Morgan" (Jesse) Glaub of Washington, IL. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Rylee and Brady Barth; Channing and Landrie Quiram; and Kayden and Gracie Glaub and two sisters, Georgia Moser of Lewistown and Ann Ingolia of Peoria.
Betty served in the U.S. Navy in the WAVES before being honorably discharged. She worked for over 30 years in the cafeteria at Monroe School until she decided to retire. Betty could have been the spokesperson for grandparenting. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events through the years and could get quite vocal.
Betty gave tribute to God through her enjoyment of everyday life, nature and crafts. She enjoyed gardening and card playing, but her true love was fishing.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 am at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville.
