

He was born May 22, 1934 in Evansville, Indiana to Rev. Waldemar and Helen (Winters) Bartell.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had a beautiful singing voice. He sang for many weddings, funerals and church services. He was very active in his community and among his activities and memberships were; Men’s Glee Club at University of Illinois, Jaycees and Kiwanis Club, he coached Pony League baseball, a member of Timberlake Country Club (where he served on the board), Peoria County Board, Limestone Walters Water Board, Precinct Committeemen, and longtime member of St John Lutheran Church, where he served at times on the church council.
Jim graduated from Manual Training High School, and the University of Illinois, and also had a CPCU Accounting Degree.
He owned and operated the Bartell Insurance Agency in Bartonville for most of his working life and his love of antiques led him to partner with his son in the business of Clock Corner Antiques.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Nadine, his children: Mike (Brenda) Bartell, Bethany (Dale) Hendricks, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, 7 step-grandchildren, one sister, Catherine (Richard) Hula, and one brother, Rev. Richard Bartell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Kristen Lee Bitner, and one sister, Marge Bluhm, and one brother, Daniel Bartell.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Additional visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in St John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John Lutheran Church general fund.
