

He was born January 12, 1949 in Peoria to Richard Jackson and Eula M. Cook.
Surviving are his children, Julie Ann Cook of Gilbert, AZ and Andy Harmon Cook of Peoria; 2 brothers, Don (Kathy) Cook and Larry (Karen) Cook both of Bartonville; his significant other, Jean Clark of Celina, TN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Richard Jackson Jr. and Robert Cook.
Jimmie joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967. He left the day after High School graduation. Immediately upon completion of training he was sent to Vietnam. His unit was ambushed the day after he arrived. The man on either side was killed and his unit suffered heavy losses. Three months later he was shot while trying to rescue a tank crew. He earned a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Rifle Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. The story of Jimmies time in Vietnam is published in Marines Under Fire by Kenneth Jordan Jr. He was Past Commandant of Peoria Leatherneck Detachment Marine Corps League. He was a member of Military Order of Devil Dogs, VFW Post #3883 and The American Legion Post #0979 in Bartonville.
Jimmie later worked at Pabst Brewery for 13 years until it closed. He then became a mail handler for the United States Postal Service until retirement.
He loved to spend time entertaining and cooking for his friends, working on/riding motorcycles and he was proud to retire to Tennessee where fishing and the outdoors was his passion.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2012 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Deacon Louie Tomlianovich will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the chapel. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
