Born on December 17, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois, Ken lived a life marked by dedication and service. He proudly served his country with four years in the United States Navy followed by two years in the Coast Guard. His time in the military reflected his unwavering commitment to duty and responsibility.
Following his honorable service, Ken embarked on a long and successful career at Caterpillar Inc., where he was admired for his integrity, loyalty, and tireless work ethic. Over the years, he earned the respect and friendship of many colleagues who valued his professionalism and steadfast presence.
Ken had a lifelong passion for racing and was a familiar face at the Peoria Speedway. He especially enjoyed trips to Eldora Speedway and relished sharing stories from his favorite races. His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious and brought joy to those around him. In addition to racing, Ken found enjoyment in playing keno and spending time with those close to him.
He was a devoted husband to Barb; a loving father to Jeff and Jamie (wife Lori); and a proud grandfather to Drew and Lia. He is also fondly remembered by his sister Dee; brother Terry (wife Georgeanne); and many others who knew him as a caring brother, uncle, father, and grandfather.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother Dorothea and father Elvan.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Carrie and the staff at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Elmwood for their compassionate care over the past year. Their kindness made a lasting impact during Ken’s final chapter.
A celebration of life for close family and friends will be held at a later date. In true Ken fashion, raise your beverage of choice and toast to a special memory in his honor.
Ken’s memory lives on through all whose lives were brightened by his kindness and strength.
