LaVern D. "Vern" Shelton

LaVern D. “Vern” Shelton, 73, of Bartonville, Illinois, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 18, 1938 in Pekin, Illinois. He was the son of Earl and Elsie (Miller) Shelton. Vern married Virginia Reynolds and was married 25 years, he later married Della M. Calvert on September 2, 1982 in Pekin, Illinois.

She survives, along with five children, David S. (Debbie) Shelton of Rozelle, Illinois, Michelle L. (Dan) Taylor of Pekin, Illinois, Evelyn (Gene) Guinn of Canton, Illinois, Rick Colclasure of Pekin, Illinois, and Lisa (Kelly) Wheeler of Lebanon, Indiana. He has ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren surviving. Vern has one brother, Lou (Diane) Shelton of Pekin, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Vern worked 55 years in construction working at C.A. Powley for 16 plus years, P and J Enterprises for over 20 years and last at Millennia retiring from there in 2009. He was a member of Local Union 231 in Pekin, Illinois. Vern loved his family and friends, and was an avid outdoorsman. He cherished his time on the lake fishing with family and friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with family and friends and he enjoyed discipleship. He was a member of the New Covenant Church of God of Mapleton, Illinois.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the New Covenant Church of God , 7023 W. Schoolhouse Road in Mapleton, Illinois, off Route 24. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate. Visitation will be from 5- 7 PM Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the New Covenant Church of God.
