Roger L. Segler, 57, of Bartonville, passed away at 1:55 pm, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Roger was born on November 27, 1953, in Peoria, the son of Wanda Delong and Robert L. Segler. Roger was raised in Bartonville by Robert and his mother Sarah Segler. He married the love of his life Sheri Krutz on November 10, 1973 in Peoria.
Surviving are his loving wife Sheri and his children, Cori Rutherford and her husband Reese “Marvin” of Mapleton and Dane Segler and his wife Shauna of Bartonville. Roger had three grandsons who he loved more than life itself, Jackson Robert 7 on May 1st, Jace “Deuce” Donovan 5, and Chance Roger “Lil Rog” 2. He also had two other grandchildren Reese Rutherford Jr. 19 and Kennedy Rutherford 12. Also surviving are his mother Sarah Segler of Bartonville, his siblings, Valerie Sloka of Carlsbad, California, Deborah (Larry) Trollope, Brad (Sue) Goodapple, Cynthia Madrigal, Sandra Segler all of Bartonville, George Segler of Peoria and Rowena Hausam, Sharon Kay (David) Palmer, both of Metamora and Rhonda Sellers of Hanna City and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also left behind many lifelong friends who were like brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Segler, his mother Wanda Belford, his step-father Delbert Belford, his niece Nicole Segler and his brother-in-law Jose Madrigal.
Roger was employed as a Project Manager for Kinseth Hospitality, last working in August 2010. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He loved the outdoors and simply lived life with no regrets everyday of his life. “Rog” was loved by all who met him and never knew a stranger. Out of all his favorite things to do, spending time with his grandsons topped the list. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 20, the Lion’s Club, American Legion 979 in Bartonville and was also active as a youth sports coach for many years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 4 to 8 pm at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, with a funeral Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel.
