Sharon Rose Young

Sharon Rose Young, 93, of Pekin, formerly of Glasford, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on July 11, 1931 in Glasford, a daughter of Chester Arthur Coats and Florence Helen (Shreve) Coats. Sharon married Dwight W. Young in October of 1949 in Glasford. He preceded her on October 20, 2008 in Glasford.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Allan; and granddaughter, Kristen; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Sharon is survived by her four children, Ronnie L. Young of Canton, Terry L. (Diana) Young of Glasford, Tracy D. (Jacqueline) Young of Glasford and Hollye C. Herndon of East Peoria; 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Mark, Erika, Tera, Luke, Kaci, Kaitlyn, Arianna, Alanni, Bethany, Matthew and Rachel; numerous great-grandchildren, Hailye, Logan, Brylee, Parker, Cooper, Kylor, Turner, Grady, Tennisyn, Hayden, Merisa, Darion and one on the way; two sisters, Sara Jane (Jess) Moore of Joliet and Joyce (Marvin) Shafer of Glasford; and several loved nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Glasford United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in the United Methodist Women for many years. Sharon loved to walk, make costumes for her kids and grandkids, cook for everyone and specialized in homemade french fries and chocolate chip cookies. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was "all about her babies". Most important to Sharon was her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Sharon's funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Glasford United Methodist Church. Pastor Tom Eckhardt will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am also on Friday at her church. Burial will take place in Lancaster Cemetery in rural Glasford.
