Stella M. Lewis

Stella M. Lewis,79, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was born on November 30, 1936 in Green Valley, Illinois to Jacob and Laura (Fuller) Schimmelpfenning. She married John Lewis on November 1, 1962 in Peoria, Illinois. He survives.

Also surviving are her four children, Rachel (Steve) Andrews of Hanna City, Illinois, Laura (Mark) Trotter of Bartonville, Illinois, Pete (Sylvia) Lewis of Mapleton, Illinois and Jon (Leah) Lewis of Sharpsburg, Georgia. She has 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Stella has two sisters, Hazel (Kenny) Stansbury of Tremont, Illinois, Wilma (Tuffy) Gascoigne of Amboy, Illinois and three brothers, Max (Donna) Schimmelpfenning and Bruce (Shirley) Schimmelpfenning both of Manito, Illinois and John (Sue) Schimmelpfenning of Effingham, Illinois. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Andrew Trotter and two brothers, Arthur and Frank Schimmelpfenning.

Stella was a Registered Nurse for over 50 years working at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria State Hospital and at Bel-Wood Nursing Home, lastly as the Administrator there, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Bridgeway Community Church of Pekin.

The Family would like to thank the nursing staff at Forest Park, 1700 Floor at St. Francis for their dignified care and compassion during her illness.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Stark will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery in Smithville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
