

Agnes Craig Coleman, age 93, formerly of Bassett, died Monday, March 05, 2012, in Cummings, GA. Born August 8, 1918, in Bassett, she was a daughter of the late Edward Pete Craig, Sr. and Nealie Rakestraw Craig. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 66 years, Robert Townes Coleman and a sister, Cleo Bassett Wilson, brother, Edward Pete Craig, Jr. Mrs. Coleman graduated from Bassett High School in 1935 and graduated from Madison College in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught in the Henry County School System and was a substitute teacher for several years. She was a charter member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and worked with the G.A. and Y.W.A. programs. She was a charter member of Bassett Garden Club and Bassett Country Club, was a former Red Cross volunteer, and was active in civic projects and local missions. Mrs. Coleman provided much of the required research for the Craig and Rakestraw genealogy books. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Coleman Porter of Alpharetta, GA, and Betsy Coleman Lynn and husband Michael of Woodstock, GA, grandson, Townes Porter of Virginia Beach, granddaughter, Kelsey Lynn of Woodstock, GA, and a sister, Inez Craig Hanbury of Richmond. Agnes was known by many as a sweet spirit with her ever present smile and gift for generating warmth and happiness. She loved her family dearly and offered support and encouragement to her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She will be missed greatly as a mother, grandmother and friend. The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Abbey, Martinsville.
