Benny Ray Stegall

Benny Ray Stegall, age 70, of Bassett died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at his home. Born in Henry County, July 12, 1943, he was a son of the late Emerson Traval Stegall and Rachel Simpson Stegall. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joey Stegall and a nephew, Jason Stegall. Benny managed several service stations in the area prior to entering the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Upon completing service to his country he became a Life and Health Insurance agent. For the past twenty-two years he owned and operated Stegall Building and Remodeling where he specialized in the roofing business for many years. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Ramsey Stegall, four daughters, Debbie Stegall Amos and her husband Ronnie of Stuart, Christie S. Stegall and her husband Mark of Ridgeway, Dee Stegall Owens and her special friend Ronnie Bowles of Stuart, Melissa Ramsey Breaux and her husband Todd of Danville, a son, Spencer Davis Ramsey and his wife Jane of Cumming, GA, a sister, Donna Martin and her husband Phil of Hardy, his brother Jerry Stegall and his wife Linda of Martinsville, seven grandchildren, Makayla Owens, Mason Ramsey, Jessica Amos, Colton Stegall, Justin Amos, Josh Stegall, Brandi Breaux, and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Hebert and Bailey Hebert. The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, with Minister Lawrence Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christmas Cheer, 451 Beaver Creek Rd, Martinsville, VA 24112, Salvation Army, 603 S. Memorial Blvd, Martinsville, VA 24112, or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 to 7:30 P.M. at Collins Funeral Home.
