Carlene Turner Howell, 93, of Martinsville and formerly of Bassett, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born in Henry County, August 1, 1923 to Sidney Fleming Turner and Ora Mason Turner. She retired from Bassett-Walker Knitting in Bassett and was a member of Free Worship Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Obie Wesley Howell and Connie Dean Howell; one sister, Myrtle T. Lewis; four brothers, Robert Marvin Turner, Lindsey Owen Turner, Coy Turner and Bennie Turner.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Charlotte Crump and husband, (Thomas) and Jewel Mae Wilensky, all of Richmond; one brother, Bobby Turner of Bassett; two sisters-in-laws, Lois G. Turner of Ridgeway and Bonnie L. Turner of Bassett and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Pastor Sidney Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
