Christine Wright Moran

Christine Wright Moran, 90, died Sunday, February7, 2021 at the Envoy Nursing Center in Staunton, Va. She was born on March 28, 1930 to the late Daniel Wright and Addie Cox Wright. She grew up in Bassett, Va, and married Curtis Moran, literally “The Boy Next door”, on June 12, 1948.They lived together in Bassett, never more than a mile from “Joycetown”, where they grew up, until Curtis passed away in September2007. Chris continued to live at the home in Bassett until 2014, when she went to the Memory Care Unit of Runk and Pratt in Lynchburg, and then to the Envoy Nursing Center in 2018. Chris, or “Nanny Chris” as she was known to the family for over 50 years, loved nurturing and cooking for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Chris was also quite an artist. But her canvas was on her cakes, which were not only a delight to the taste buds but a true works of art. Over the years hundreds of people made the trek to Franklin Heights in Bassett to get one of her beautiful cakes, to help celebrate wedding, birthdays, graduations, or any number of life events. Chris is survived by two children, Eddie Moran (Eadie) of Lynchburg and Susan Cowan (Alan) of Stephens City, Va. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Jen Pack, Julie Feaster (Craig), Cory Slusher (Matt), Missy Tucker (Stephen Doyle), and Lauren Cowan (Brandon Blanenship) and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Polly Wright, Two sister in laws, Opalene Maxey and Betty Jean Vrotney, and several nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Clinton Wright. Because of COVID concerns there will be no memorial service or family visitation. But the family would like to thank everyone who interacted with Chris over the years, who helped make her life a true reason to celebrate. There will be a private interment at Roselawn Burial Park. For all their lives, Chris and Curtis loved good food – especially ice cream. Whenever the children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren came to visit, there was always plenty of ice cream, which was never turned down. So with this in mind, the family has an unusual final request. In lieu of any flowers, get with someone you care about and enjoy a delicious ice cream treat in memory of Nanny Chris. We are sure she and Curtis will be looking down together smiling as they watch you.
